As a member of Women Writing the West, you are encouraged to sign up for our free email discussion group. Members post accomplishments, offer marketing tips, ask for help on research and discuss other professional concerns.
How it Works:
Click the button to fill out a very short form, and you will receive an email invitation to join the email group (please allow a few days to get your invitation – all members are invited manually by a moderator – and check your spam or junk folders). Email group messages are delivered to your email inbox as your choice of individual emails, daily digest, or summary. You may set your preferences on the groups.io page.
FAQs about the new Groups.io:
If after accepting the invitation to join the Women Writing the West’s group email you wish to send an email to the entire group of WWW subscribers, please address your email to: [email protected]
Be sure to add [email protected] to your email contacts list so that you never miss a single post!
Have you accepted the invitation to join the WWW email group without getting a Groups.io password? Creating your own password grants full access to your Groups.io account, including features such as receiving email individually or as a daily digest. Visit: https://groups.io/login
If you only want to send and receive messages from the group, you do not have to set up a password.
Please remember to sign your messages with both your first and last names.
GROUP EMAIL DELIVERY OPTIONS
Groups.io offers several delivery options to control how much, if any, email to receive from your groups. To change your subscription, login to Groups.io and click on Your Groups, WomenWritingtheWest, go to Subscription and choose your email delivery option. If you don’t have a password to login to Groups.io, create one by going to https://groups.io/login
Individual Messages sends each email individually, as soon as it’s posted.
Full Featured Digest groups the day’s messages into batches of 12 and sends each batch when the twelfth is posted. Any that remain at the end of the day will be sent as the final (or only) digest of the day. This digest includes the full text of each message, omitting any quotes of prior messages. Full Featured Digests include at the top a list of the enclosed topics, clickable as links to take you to that topic.
Plain Digest is similar to Full Featured Digest but is sent as a text/plain email message with no clickable links.
Daily Summary sends a once-daily list of topics posted that day. Unlike the digests, the summary does not include the text of any of the messages, only the list of topics.
If you have any questions or need assistance, please contact Roni McFadden, [email protected] or Alice Trego, [email protected], Email Group Managers

Women Writing the West Logo and its Symbolism
LOGO
The original Women Writing the West logo was first created as a pin and given to one of the Founders and First President, Sybil Downing, by her husband Mancourt. His desire was to honor her efforts in establishing a writer’s organization for women.
Sybil presented the pin at the second meeting, and all original WWW Board members agreed that the design should become the logo for WWW.
While Sybil’s husband “Corky” suggested—perhaps tongue-in-cheek—that the design represented a mosquito biting the hand of a writer so they would get the “writer’s bug,” the hand has come to represent all members as writers, while the western motif of the design pays homage to the organization’s pledge to celebrate the role of women in the western experience through historical and contemporary writing.
COLOR
When Founders Sybil Downing and Jerrie Hurd took the pin to a graphic designer, they asked him to use the design to create the logo.
They discussed the symbolism desired, especially that the color would represent the American West.
The designer chose burnt sienna for applications compatible with color usage and black and white for everything else.
As the organization has grown, the logo has come to mean much more to all members as a symbol of professional excellence.
