SCREENPLAYS: Get ready for another peak experience! Film producer Megan Marshall Peterson will join us in Colorado Springs. She’ll participate in Saturday panel “So You Want to Write for Film?” and will be available for appointments to critique screenplays. Megan is currently completing a series for the Travel Channel and working on her feature-length independent film, Suspended, to be produced by Paulo Feliciano and starring Joaquim De Almeda (24 and Desperado), Belarmino Ramos and Ilaria Oaklander. She has worked as producer, director, and script writer for feature and documentary series with Arcwelder Films for National Geographic and wrote for TV series including 2004’s Expeditions to the Edge. Megan judged a variety of independent and documentary film festivals, including the L.A. Film Festival.
Make your appointment for a half-hour block of time with Megan at the conference registration table. A contribution to WWW of $15 for this professional session is requested. Megan requests that you bring your logline and no more than the first three pages of your script.
EDITOR/PUBLISHER: Mira Perrizo will represent Johnson Books at the conference. She started in the book business in 1966 setting books by hot type, and has spent the last 40 years studying book design and typography as a hobby. She taught English before working at Westview Press for seventeen years, managing the design and composition department, eventually becoming one of the vice presidents of the company. She has worked at Johnson Books for the past eleven years, and has been publisher for the last eight years.
The panel “Memoir/Creative Non-Fiction: Telling Our Stories With Truth” scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Sunday will move to 3:45 p.m. on Saturday.
“What’s Fair? A Copyright and Intellectual Property Discussion” will be presented in the 8:30 a.m. Sunday morning time slot. Julie Herzog of Schuchat, Herzog and Brenman, LLC, will join this panel.
TOUR: Twenty-nine people have signed up for the Friday morning bus tour to the Garden of the Gods, the Pioneer Museum, and lunch/shopping on your own in Old Colorado City. Don’t be left out! The cost is $20 per person.
TRAVEL: Road construction on Interstate 25 currently affects access to the Wyndham Hotel. The work is schedule for completion before our conference begins. However, for those who are driving to the conference, the website <http://www.cosmixproject.com/> will give you up-to-date information on the status #147 Rockrimmon Blvd entrance and exit ramps.
AIRPORT TRANSPORTATION: If you are flying into Colorado
Springs, don’t forget to make a reservation with Peak Transit (719-687-3456)
for $10 transportation by van to the hotel. Be sure to make a reservation
back to the airport for your return flight.
From the windows of our beautiful conference hotel you will enjoy breathtaking views of Pikes Peak. Join WWW in Colorado Springs where the bicentennial of Zebulon Pike’s western expedition is a year-long celebration.
Before the conference begins, a special event toasting the WILLA Literary Award winners and finalists from the past seven years will be presented in Denver on October 19 from 4-7 pm at the Tattered Cover bookstore. Paulette Jiles and Sandra Dallas will be the featured speakers at this event celebrating the literary legacy of Willa Cather for whom the award is named.
The pre-conference tour on Friday morning will take you to the beautiful red sandstone Garden of the Gods (bring your camera), the Pioneer Museum, and lunch on your own in Old Colorado City.
The conference begins on Friday afternoon. The evening networking buffet will set the stage for a peak experience with other writers passionate about women’s stories of the American West.
